■Design
Trench coats were created during World War I as one of the long coats worn by British and French army officers in the trenches to protect themselves from the rain and cold. ATON is a trench coat based on a 100-year-old trench coat, with precious details from that time, but with real military fabric and a design updated to suit the modern environment. The oversized design is light and comfortable to wear, taking advantage of the material's firm yet soft, elegant stiffness and luster, so it looks great even when left unfastened. The collar has a foldable windproof strap, and of course the original functionality of a trench coat is also fully realized. The soft fabric creates a beautiful silhouette even when the belt is tightly tightened. The sleeve straps are easy to remove and fasten, so you can roll up your sleeves boldly. The sleeves are lined with cupra to make it easier to put on and take off, but the body is unlined, featuring a beautiful finish. This is a truly one-of-a-kind trench coat that looks great even when you take it off.
■Material
After two years of repeated analysis and prototyping, we have completely recreated the "West Point" material used in the legendary trench coat released in 2017. The raw cotton used is only the cotton that was fiercely fought over in California*, and the yarn is specially spun at a spinning factory in Izumiminami, Osaka. The yarn is dyed and woven in Bishu, where it is slowly and carefully woven on a shuttle loom, making this an ATON original material.
*Cotton
<br>San Joaquin Cotton
San Joaquin Valley, California. This area has ideal conditions for cotton cultivation, with abundant sunlight, abundant meltwater from the Sierra Nevada snow, and fertile soil. San Joaquin cotton grown here has long fibers and uniform quality, and is trusted as the cleanest cotton in the world. It has a soft texture, excellent color development, and excellent water absorption, and is characterized by its ability to withstand frequent use and maintain its texture even after washing.
*After the Pacific War, this uniform was said to have been presented to General MacArthur using the most advanced spinning technology in Japan. The fabric was a legendary material called "West Point" that was created 15 to 20 years ago at a spinning factory using the same recipe. We searched for and reconstructed the detostock of the fabric that was made at that time.
