The image is of handmade hiking boots from Mountain Research's early lineup. The "A" mark, dark brown leather, and shoelace coloring are truly symbolic.

The shoes have a traditional mountain boot feel, with leather used for the insole and lining (rather than modern functional materials). This allows the leather to absorb sweat from the soles of the feet, preventing them from becoming stuffy and keeping the discomfort to a minimum.
