Orienteering. Rogaining. Navigation races that combine mountaineering techniques are popular. The style of paddling through the bush to find checkpoints is like a treasure hunt. The Mojave Desert Dowsing Marathon was introduced to Rogaining, modeled after the Barkley Marathon in Tennessee, also known as the "Devil's Race" because almost no one finishes.
